Introduction

Welcome to Death Watch Speaks – a forum where death row prisoners from all over the US on death What watch blog entries through ALIVE – Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, which chronicles their day to day existence as they face an execution date.
Many times people wonder “what do death row inmates go through” as they face an up-coming execution date. We know that some people on death watch have protested, refused to go willingly, some have taken their own lives in defiance of vengeance and state sanctioned murder. Others have walked alone in different ways. Few have walked with them or in their shoes. Words alone cannot express these trials and tribulations they endure and walked while on death watch.
What were their motivations? What were their thoughts, the process they contemplated, their various struggles? Hopefully now, people who hold or held misconceptions can have the truth exposed with eyes wide open.
Death watch speaks is not intended to be a voyeuristic view into the sick practice of legalized homicide by the state executing human beings. All we hope is that you can see beyond the crime. Beyond the number of condemned, viewing them as people with families, lives – fellow human beings. Come to see these people in their own words – expressions. They are brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles – friends – loved ones – they are your average Joe or Jane.
Come to know as we at ALIVE believe: No matter the crime, justice is never served when states kill people. The death penalty creates a whole set of victims of new generations. It is an injustice to think justice is served by killing in the name of vengeance.
We move you to get involved – embark on a journey of real peoples’ struggles and step out of your comfort zone – we encourage you to get involved. Each person can make a difference in life’s journey.

My first entry into Alive's Blog "Death Watch Speaks”.

Where to begin?

First, I'd like to say to those of you who oppose the death penalty: KEEP THE FIGHT ALIVE!

Without you this insanity will never change! I wish I could thank you and encourage each and every one of you to keep striving forward!

As of today if the state of Texas has its way, I've got 46 days left to live! I can NOT even begin to explain to you how bizarre and surreal that is. It's absolutely crazy. I'm 32 years old...healthy, in great shape, yet the state of Texas has me on "THEIR" Death Bed!

It's been a struggle and still is dealing with this...but me and my family are managing... However we most definitely could use any and all of your support.

My kids are my focus throughout this! My children have been and will forever be my everything, my heart and soul, my main source of strength. If the state of Texas has their way, they will scare those INNOCENT children FOR LIFE and make them victims as well. I cannot understand why that isn't more obvious to those who are in favor of the death penalty.

CAPITAL PUNISMENT CREATES VICTIMS NOT CLOSURE!

Despite that fact, the broken hearts and pain I'm doing all I can to help them through this, to help them to become strong enough to overcome and rise above this.

Again, we could use any and all of your support!

To my kids, I love you dearly, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU.

February 1st & 2nd I will be sitting down with them face to face. Needless to say I'm VERY EXITED! I will definitely post the pictures.

I'm also posting a poem I wrote about my situation. I hope you like it!

There will be more to come and this will not be my last blog. MY WORD TO YOU ALL!

As I finish this one up, death watch is quiet. There's only 8 of us, 8 too many, no doubt and I'm sure we all could use a little love! Keep us in your thoughts and KEEP THE FIGHT ALIVE!

LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH

The Prodigal Son,

I sit here contemplate my future, while the State contemplated my fate.

Throw me into this cage years ago and forced me to endure the wait. To anticipate their next move, while I calculated mine. And in time I've soaked up all the knowledge I could find.

Now I'm ready steady my aim, fire my rage. I close my eyes as my pen scrolls across this page.

Spiking from the soul, because I want you to know what's within. These words are real and my thoughts genuinely, depicted in each and every line.

Despite casualties I'd like to say that I'm fine, although the torture has most definite destroyed the mind.

Through this little hole they call a window, the sun does shine and to me that's a sign. I'm ready to give it my all and why not. My Life is on the Line!?

The Soul of a Warrior yet insecurities of a man. As we all know it's not in comfort, but in adversity when you know where you stand and here I am!!

Scared to death inside, trying not to cry, not within to die, while doing my best not to show it. Ironic wouldn't you agree that it's taken all of this for me to articulate the heart of a poet.

I've questioned my mind, my heart and my intent.

I've questioned God and the purpose for this world I was sent!

I repent and never meant to hit the ground running hell bound for life.

I've been held down, celled down, like a beast...No peace...

And you death penalty pushers and legalized killers are the ones who expect the madness to cease!? PLEASE!!

Ask yourself was he an animal before he was treated like one? A Man not an Animal in a cage. Here I am...The Prodigal Son!

James Hazelton and Hazelton's 23-year-old brother-in-law, Peter Sparagana.

Young executed in Oklahoma

Julius Ricardo Young was executed by the state of Oklahoma on January 14,
2010 for the 1993 fatal beatings of his former girlfriend's daughter and
grandchild.

Young was convicted of killing Joyland Morgan and her son, Kewan, whose
bodies were found Oct. 1, 1993, at their Tulsa apartment.

Prosecutors say Young was upset that Morgan's mother had recently ended
their relationship. They say he broke into the family's apartment and beat
the 2 with a baseball bat.

The 60-year-old Young maintained his innocence at an Oklahoma Pardon and
Parole Board hearing in December, but the board denied his clemency request.

All of Young's appeals had been exhausted.

LOUISIANA: Bordelon waived his appeals

Gerald Bordelon was executed on January 7th 2010 for killing stepdaughter in 2002.

The 47-year-old waived his right to appeal the death sentence. He gave a taped confession and was convicted of the murder in 2006. When he was sentenced, Bordelon asked to be executed. He said he wanted to spare the victim's family and his family any more grief.

It was the first execution in Louisiana in more than 7 years.

TEXAS: Kenneth Mosley executed

Kenneth Mosley was convicted of shooting a police officer during an attempted bank robbery in February 1997.

Mosley shook his head once when asked by a warden if he had any final statement. As the lethal drugs began taking effect, he snored a few times, then gasped slightly. 9 minutes later, at 6:16 p.m. on January 7th 2010, he was pronounced dead.

Earlier this week, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles denied his request for clemency.

Mosley declined to speak with reporters as his execution neared.

He had an extensive criminal record he blamed on drug addiction.
